A Life of My Own
A chance for carers to unwind and have fun alongside the people they support
Supporting a family member, friend or partner can be tough and getting time out for yourself to unwind isn’t easy. Most people don’t recognise themselves as ‘carers’ but if you are giving support to someone with additional needs who couldn’t manage without that help then you are!
The arts stir something deep within that gets buried under piles of mundane everyday stuff. It helps take you away from the stresses that shadow your thoughts.
We have been running creative workshops with carers for the past two years as part of the project ‘A Life Of My Own’ including sessions in visual arts, drama, music and song writing. Carers have been supporting friends and family who have dementia, mental health issues, learning disability and long term health conditions.
Carers have described our workshops as ‘enjoyable, warm and friendly’ and ‘a chance to be around other adults for conversation and stimulation.’ By taking part in arts activity carers and those they support are on an equal footing and are able to try new things together.
Creative arts give me time to switch off and concentrate on something different and fun
We are not currently running A Life of My Own sessions, but hope to in the future. If you are interested in finding out more, please call Amy for a chat on 01302 558041 or email email@example.com.
