Danni delivers dance sessions for adults aged 50+ in a variety of different settings across Doncaster, as well as at our home The Point. You’ll also see Danni featured in lots of the Dance On at Home videos on our YouTube channel. We asked Danni about her love of dance, what type of music gets her moving and how dance has changed since the pandemic.
How long have you been dancing for and what inspired you to become a dancer?
I have been dancing from a very young age. My Grandma really loved tap dancing and took me to dance classes from the age of 3. I learnt lots of styles of dance but when I was around 15, I found contemporary dance and knew immediately that was what I wanted to do and my love grew and grew from there.
What do you love most about dancing with people?
I love sharing and being creative. I enjoy being in a positive, care-free space which allows us all to have fun, dance and move with one another.
How has the pandemic impacted your work? What have the challenges been and how have you adapted your practice?
Throughout the pandemic, the way that we all experience dance has changed. I think we all miss coming together, but some classes have found ways to get together online. Adapting to this as someone who likes to bounce off the energy of other people has been tricky! But, it has allowed us to continue dancing.
What’s your favourite kind of music to dance to?
Everything and anything! I love a massive variety of music and getting other people to introduce me to new music. Music that creates a strong mood or feeling is my favourite.
Where do you get your ideas and inspiration from?
It can come from anywhere. I particularly like to gather ideas from the people that I am working with. When you get to know a group and what they will enjoy and are interested in, then I normally start by selecting the music.
