Help us reach more 0-5s in Doncaster
Tuneful Chatter is a proven creative early-years programme that improves communication, confidence and school readiness for disadvantaged 0–5-year-olds in Doncaster.
32.4% of Doncaster’s children live in poverty and many families face significant barriers including poor mental health, financial hardship and limited access to affordable activities. Post-pandemic developmental delays are still evident in young children, particularly in communication and personal, social and emotional development. Early Years practitioners report that many children struggle to listen, take turns or express themselves confidently.
Tuneful Chatter responds directly to this need through free weekly creative sessions delivered in accessible Family Hubs. These sessions bring together professional artists, young children and their parents or carers to explore music, movement, storytelling and imaginative play.
Sessions are designed to:
- improve communication and language development
- strengthen social and emotional skills
- build confidence and self-expression
- support children to become school ready
Creative play and movement encourage listening and turn-taking. Music and singing help children develop vocabulary and confidence. Storytelling and drama spark imagination and allow children to explore their ideas in a supportive environment.
Parents and carers participate alongside their children, learning simple creative activities they can continue at home using everyday materials. This strengthens family relationships while helping adults feel more confident supporting their child’s development. It also helps build stronger local communities by bringing families together in safe, welcoming spaces where they can connect and support one another.
Tuneful Chatter builds on three successful years of delivery in Doncaster. Evaluation shows significant improvement in children’s development, with the proportion meeting age-related expectations in communication and language increasing from 35% to 68%, and personal, social and emotional development increasing from 40% to 64%.
Your donation will enable us to continue delivering this proven programme to families who need it most, ensuring vulnerable children in Doncaster develop the skills, confidence and relationships that will help them thrive in school and later life
