john’s singing for memory story

John (not his real name) began coming to Singing for Memory with his wife Maureen (not her real name), who was living with dementia.

The first time my wife came she really enjoyed it. She loved singing and it seemed to take her away from everything else that was wrong.

Since Maureen passed away in October last year, John has been coming to Singing for Memory ever since.

Whilst John only knows a bit about music, he enjoys singing and the company of other people.

“I love singing. I go to another choir as well and I really enjoy coming here.

There’s companionship here... a friendly atmosphere. It’s absolutely great. I enjoy seeing the looks on people’s faces and all the excitement the sessions create”

John regularly attends Singing for Memory with his granddaughter Michelle.

As a registered charity, we rely on donations to help us engage more people like John in Singing for Memory and other creative activities.
