Doncaster Council support us to strengthen community connections

Well Doncaster has named darts as one of the Anchor Organisations in the borough, providing services and positive opportunities for local communities. Our building, The Point, is central to this and provides a safe, inclusive and friendly venue that is open to everyone.

Local Solutions Community Hub funding from Well Doncaster is supporting darts to strengthen connections with local groups in the central wards. Experienced artists are already delivering bespoke activity sessions to different organisations and families. The creative activity delivered is designed to improve mental health and wellbeing and bring people together to feel less isolated – it’s also hugely enjoyable!

The project has been developed in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. We know that people’s mental health has been getting worse throughout the pandemic – people are feeling a lot more anxious, depressed and lonely. We also know that there are lots of people in central Doncaster from different backgrounds and communities, and many residents don’t speak English. The funding will allow us to raise the profile of The Point as a safe and welcoming space for all.

If you are interested in the project and want to find out more, contact Amy on amy@wearedarts.org.uk or 01302493991.

The funding will also support the regular Creative Directions group to continue running until December. These weekly sessions are for adults aged 18 – 90+ to meet new people, try new things and improve mental health so they can move forward in their life. One previous participant said.

Over a very short space of time, my life has totally changed again…The Point and darts has had a massive, massive impact on my life from literally starting that session. I now volunteer here twice a week, I did the volunteers course as well…it’s awesome, it’s like life has just gone from being so dark to being light again, so it’s wonderful.

Volunteers

As part of our Local Solutions Community Hub project, we are looking for new volunteers in central Doncaster.  Would you like to meet new people, try something different and learn new skills? Our volunteers support lots of different creative sessions and help to make everyone feel welcome in our building, The Point. If you would like to have a go at volunteering with us, why not join our Introduction to Volunteering group? You will have chance to meet other volunteers, help artists to run creative sessions and join in with fun training sessions. If you are from Balby, Intake, Wheatley, Town Centre, Clay Lane, Hyde Park or Hexthorpe and fancy joining the team then get in touch with Sophie on sophie@wearedarts.org.uk or call on 01302 493843 to find out more.

This project will finish in December 2022 but volunteering opportunities will continue.
