Meet the Artist: Lucy Taylor

Find out more about the artists delivering your darts activities

Lucy completed a traineeship with darts. She is a visual artist, who was a darts participant before becoming a volunteer, and continued her arts journey through a traineeship.

What made you become an artist?

I’ve always been interested in art and textiles, but it wasn’t until my mental health was really bad that I started to really dive into the world of creativity.

Can you tell us a bit more about your work?

The work that I do is very colourful, I like to share a message about mental health or anything that might provoke a response from the viewer. I use recycled objects, mannequins feature quite a lot in my work, alongside digital design.

What do you like best about being a trainee?

The thing I like best about being a trainee is that I’m able to give back what was given to me so freely at The Point, having been a participant and then a volunteer here. It’s so nice to be able to give the people that come to the sessions the same care and attention that I was given.

Any advice for someone wanting to get more creative?

If you’re wanting to get more creative, just keep it simple. Art doesn’t have to be an expensive affair – you could use household things and glue them together and just let your imagination go. Don’t be frightened!
