Opportunities for Educators

How we collaborate with and support teachers & educators

Artist Karen Hall leads a CPD session for teachers at The Point in Doncaster

CPD and Training

We are committed to providing high quality, hands on learning opportunities for Doncaster teachers. Our professional artists include musicians, photographers, visual artists, film-makers, dancers, writers and drama practitioners and all have a wealth of experience – both in their own art form and in engaging children and young people in creative activity.

Our artists deliver excellent CPD for teachers – sharing tips and tricks both in teaching the artform itself and in using creative approaches across the whole curriculum. Sessions can be delivered in school as part of a teacher training day, or teachers can engage in our ongoing programme of events normally delivered at our home, The Point, in central Doncaster. Sessions are designed to be fun and immersive, inviting teachers to take part rather than sit and listen. Artists are also adept at building confidence in teachers so that they feel able to teach a certain subject or to use a creative approach in a non-arts curriculum topic.

Current CPD opportunities can be found on our What’s On pages here, or sign up to our Teacher E-newsletter to get new opportunities direct to your inbox.

Join our Schools Arts Network for educators interested in sharing best practice and learning more about arts in schools, facilitated by Sarah, director of Arts and Education. We meet termly at The Point, offer free CPD for teachers and specialised support. All teachers are welcome to join. If you’d like to get involved, please email Sarah@wearedarts.org.uk.

I learnt new sketchbook techniques, warm up drawing ideas, combining art with practicing times tables/ fractions and spellings.

I’m very glad I came, feeling very inspired and excited to do some of these projects with my pupils because it was clear how I can link it to the curriculum and my topics, Thank you!

Class Visits to The Point

Entry to the gallery is free, giving educators and students access to contemporary exhibitions featuring local, national and international artists from a wide range of disciplines.

Learn about the work of different artists, makers and designers, discover different techniques and ways of making art and use the work on show as inspiration for your own creations. Why not download and print our resources to facilitate your visit?

We welcome visits from all educational settings. Please book ahead so that we can make sure the space is available for your group. We recommend that you book as early as possible to secure your preferred date.

We have space in the gallery where you can store coats and bags or eat packed lunches. The Point is fully accessible with lifts to all levels of the building, disabled toilets and a Changing Place including hoist and changing bench. We are also a Makaton Friendly venue. Please let us know your requirements at the time of booking. To book a teacher-led visit, email sophie@wearedarts.org.uk

Artist-led Workshops

Book an artist-led visit and allow one of our experienced facilitators to guide you around the gallery at The Point, immersing participants in the exhibition so that it is both accessible and inspiring.

Your learners will then take part in a workshop based on the artwork on display. They will have the opportunity to explore ideas, use a range of different materials and develop new skills and techniques. These sessions change depending on the exhibition, but our artists will always endeavour to make age-appropriate curriculum links.

Artist-led visits are suitable for one class at a time (max. 35 students) and last for up to 2 hours. All materials needed are included in the cost and students will be able to take away what they have created at the end of the session. Teachers must remain with their students throughout.

We have space in the gallery where you can store coats and bags or eat packed lunches. The Point is fully accessible with lifts to all levels of the building, disabled toilets and a Changing Place including hoist and changing bench. We are also a Makaton Friendly venue.
