darts is a participatory arts charity working solely in the Doncaster borough

Children singing at a Sing Out performance

Our mission is to create art with people in Doncaster to improve life, learning and health. We focus on delivering creative activity with:

  • schools
  • children & young people living with disability
  • vulnerable children & young people
  • adults experiencing mental health issues
  • those with long-term health conditions, particularly dementia

We offer a safe space to try different, sometimes challenging, and often transformative creative activities. With over 30 years’ experience, we know that taking part in creative activity helps people fulfil their potential by making positive changes.

Our home, The Point, is a friendly place that is open to all. The Point is a fully accessible town centre building with café, Changing Places facility and Makaton Friendly status. All of our staff are Dementia Friends and we do all we can to make your experience a positive one. Find out more about our building at www.thepoint.org.uk

We deliver high quality creative activities at The Point and in communities across the Doncaster borough. Our artists are experienced facilitators as well as being experts in their own art form and our team includes dancers, visual artists, drama practitioners, musicians, sculptors, DJ/producers, photographers, illustrators and wordsmiths. Each has years of experience of working in a wide range of settings and with people with a diverse range of needs.

Our Values:

  • We are a friendly organisation offering you a safe space to try different – and sometimes challenging – creative activities
  • We listen and try to respond to your interests and needs
  • We give you the time and space to make connections with other opportunities, places and people
  • We strive to work with people for as long as they want and at any stage of their lives

Our approach is accessible, arresting attention and arousing curiosity.

Each piece of work is unique – freshly designed for participants and purpose. We empower people to take charge of their participation and determine its direction.

darts has a person-centred approach and we respond to the needs and abilities of every individual in the room. Whilst the ingredients that make our sessions successful are the same, each one is bespoke to ensure the best possible experience for the participants.

We passionately believe that the arts can make a significant difference in people’s lives. Sometimes this can seem tiny to the outside eye, for example, a young person who has unbound movement and can make sounds but has no speech being captivated for a full three minutes by a pocket synthesizer connected to a large drum that vibrated and changed rhythm in response to his movement. At other times, change can be momentous:

"I’ve tried Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, counselling, anti-depressants and nothing has worked until now…this [darts-led activity] is the only thing that works for me."
