The Art of Engagement is an in-depth guide to best practice approaches of using the arts with young people educated outside mainstream education.

The book was commissioned in 2007 by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and was written by Bob Adams. It includes insights from artists delivering the work, alongside academics Shirley Brice Heath and Bianca Nunes.

This is an incredibly accessible and useful publication, and includes a wealth of guidance on modelling behaviours, planning, rewarding, persevering and evaluating within challenging environments.
