Volunteer Stories: Amy

Celebrate Volunteers' Week with us

A group of adults smile as they dance. Two adults at the front of the image are looking at each other and smiling. One is wearing a black and white striped top with blue trousers and the other is wearing a black top with white and grey shapes on it. Behind them is a blue wall with a picture on it.

To celebrate Volunteers’ Week, we are introducing you to some of our brilliant volunteer team.

Amy is our newest volunteer and has been with us for just over a month, supporting our Dance On group in Bessacarr. We asked her what she is enjoying about volunteering and she said, ‘it’s been wonderful to meet artists and participants alike who share so much joy within the same creative space; it’s our weekly one-hour dance party. I’m lucky enough to work with families over in North Derbyshire but it’s so wonderful to make those connections here in my home town.’

Our volunteers are a creative bunch and we love to see them bringing this into their volunteering with us. Amy told us, ‘volunteering for darts has helped me return to one of my first creative passions – dance! The Dance On sessions are my happy place – around working and family life, I can take a breath, reenergise and meet new people.’

It is still very early in Amy’s volunteering journey with us, but she has done so much to support our Dance On group already, from helping our dance artists to set up for sessions to encouraging new participants to have a go at dancing. When we asked Amy if there was anything else she wanted to share about her volunteering so far, she said, ‘with such a diverse programme, volunteering with darts is so satisfying. It is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who is looking to meet the super friendly team at darts, work with inspiring artists and create moments of magic with Doncaster residents!’

Thank you for everything you do to support us and our participants Amy!
